Yesterday marked a really cool milestone for Young Money: we hit 25,000 readers!

365 days ago, I sent 1,352 of you an article about how Ken Griffin, the CEO of Citadel Securities, outbid a cryptocurrency-crowdfund for an original copy of the US Constitution.

One year, 100 articles, and 24,000 additional readers later, here we are. I want to use today's piece to reflect a bit on the last year, generate some feedback from you guys, and tell you about some of my future plans with Young Money. But first, a massive thank you to each and every one of you for taking 10 minutes out of your day to read my stuff ❤️

In July 2021, I started this blog to (hopefully) help me land a full-time writing gig for a year or so. I had no idea that Young Money would become a full-time gig itself. I had no idea how many opportunities could stem from an online blog. And I certainly had no idea how many friends I would make from sharing my thoughts 2x per week with the world.

But here we are. Life is funny like that.

This blog has forever changed the trajectory of my life, and it wouldn't have been possible without all 25,150 of you. So thank you for joining me on this journey.

I have written more than 100 articles (sheesh) in the last 16 months, and I wanted to share a compilation of my 10 favorite pieces with you.

And my personal favorite:

If you can only read one Young Money piece for the rest of your life, I implore you to make it "The Opportunity Cost of Everything."

I also wanted to give a few more personal thank yous:

  • Thank you, Nick Maggiulli, for being the first established writer to take notice of and share my work. Early encouragement, especially from someone who has "made it", means everything when you are just getting started writing. That was huge for me.

  • Thank you, Litquidity, for responding to a random DM on Twitter inquiring about helping with your newsletter. Working on Exec Sum has taught me more about how the newsletter game works than anything else.

  • Thank you, Packy McCormick and Morgan Housel, for showing a novice writer how you can win this online writing game. You guys have both (probably unknowingly) mentored me directly and indirectly over the last year.

  • Thank you, Nathan Baugh (my favorite co-instructor), for being my go-to guy for all things newsletters, content, and writing. You have been invaluable both as a friend and a fellow writer.

  • Thank you, Katie Gatti Tassin, for exchanging random, ridiculous writing ideas back and forth with me.

  • Thank you to all of the other writers, creators, and "Twitter friends" that have made this whole thing so much fun.

And most importantly:

  • Thank you to my parents and grandparents for not calling me crazy for wanting to ditch a "real job" to write a blog. Because let's be honest, that was pretty crazy.

Okay, enough reflecting. Let me give you guys a few updates on what is coming up next.

First, I'm going to revamp my referral system. Right now, if you refer 15 people to Young Money, I buy you one of my 15 favorite books. That's a pretty tall task by itself, so after New Years I will be adding a few other lower-tier referral rewards such as a real-time reading list (including my notes on what I'm reading) and a travel guide that covers all of the countries that I've been to so far.

Travel guide sneak peak 👀

Hopefully, you guys find these resources interesting and/or useful. Also, I know ~6 of you have ordered books that haven't been delivered. International shipping to some countries is difficult, but I haven't forgotten about you. Working on resolving those issues now.

I also want to use my platform to help interesting folks share their stories, so I am about to start a monthly interview series where I publish transcripts of conversations that I have with different company founders and other fascinating individuals.

I have two founders lined up in December, and I plan to chat with 1-2 folks per month starting in 2023.

These conversations won't be sponsored or "pay to play" (though guests are certainly welcome to discuss their businesses and any opportunities that they may have). I just want to share cool stories and ideas from different industries and entrepreneurs with my readers. If you have read Matt Levine's interview with Morning Brew (linked below), this segment will be something like that.

Don't worry guys, I'm keeping the main thing the main thing. 7/8 posts are still brain blasts from yours truly.

I'm also going to start including a poll below "Jack's Picks" at the bottom of every post to help me evaluate the quality of my work. This piece is the first to use said poll. I want to write the best content possible each week, and the most effective way to judge my pieces is by asking my readers (you guys) what you think!

Feel free to vote on this article to get the ball rolling.

Lastly, I want to collect some one-time feedback from those of you who have followed me for a while. I created a short, five-question form where you guys can compliment, criticize, and/or roast me and this blog. Hit the button below if you want to tell me what you like and dislike about Young Money so far!

I'm taking the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving, but I'll be back next Tuesday with your usual content. Once again, thank you for following along with me for the last 16 months. Next stop, 100,000 🤝
